Suicide and self-harm are complex and never caused by one factor alone. Problematic screen use, cyberbullying, harmful content, and online exploitation may increase risk or intensify existing distress. If someone is in immediate danger or emotional crisis in the United States, call or text 988.

My Sister Liv is a 2022 documentary, directed by Alan Hicks and produced by Paula DuPré Pesmen, with 36 Months co-founder Rob Galluzzo among its executive producers, following sisters Tess and Liv as Liv experiences depression, body-image struggles, and suicidal thoughts that the film connects to social pressures, including social media, ending in her death by suicide. Told largely from Tess's and the family's perspective, the film centers on grief, stigma, and the aftermath rather than on identifying a single cause, and is the centerpiece of The Liv Project, a nonprofit using the film to prompt conversations about youth mental health. It premiered at DOC NYC in 2022 and has since screened at multiple film festivals. TechKids Foundation includes it as a documented, factual account of the film's existence and stated purpose; this entry does not speculate about the causes of Liv's death beyond what the film's own producers describe.
