Oral Evidence to the Women and Equalities Committee: Misogyny, the Manosphere and Online Content
On 21 May 2025, Kaitlyn Regehr gave oral evidence to the UK House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee as part of its inquiry into 'Misogyny: the manosphere and online content.' Drawing on her UCL research into TikTok's recommender algorithms and image-based sexual harassment, Regehr described to MPs how social media design choices are associated with the rapid escalation of misogynistic content shown to teenage boys and with normalized sexual harassment among teenage girls, and discussed what algorithmic-accountability and digital-literacy measures might address these patterns. TechKids Foundation includes this testimony as a documented instance of a researcher's academic findings being formally presented to a national legislature considering online-safety policy, not as a legislative outcome in itself.
