Talk

iGen: The Smartphone Generation | TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool

Mar 2018 🇺🇸 TEDx Talks

In this independently organized TEDx talk at Laguna Blanca School in Santa Barbara, California, Jean Twenge presents the generational research behind her book iGen to a general audience, walking through the survey trends she says mark the smartphone-era generation as distinct from Millennials — including how they socialize, how much time they spend with devices, and how their reported happiness and anxiety compare to prior generations at the same age. As in her written work, Twenge frames the generational shift as coinciding with the rise of smartphones and social media rather than resulting from any one single cause, and points to practical steps families and schools can take in response. TechKids Foundation includes this talk as a short, accessible video version of the iGen argument, aimed at parents and educators who may not read the full book.
