Sep 2025 🇺🇸 CBS News

Suicide and self-harm are complex and never caused by one factor alone. Problematic screen use, cyberbullying, harmful content, and online exploitation may increase risk or intensify existing distress. If someone is in immediate danger or emotional crisis in the United States, call or text 988.

CBS News published video coverage of the September 2025 Senate Judiciary hearing at which former Meta researchers Jason Sattizahn and Cayce Savage described internal research on harm to children using Meta's virtual-reality products. The video centers on the two witnesses' sworn accounts of reviewing, and in some cases being told to limit or remove, research documenting unwanted sexual contact, bullying, and exposure to adult content experienced by younger VR users, along with their description of Meta's internal review process for safety-related research. TechKids Foundation includes this broadcast coverage as a documented public appearance in which two research-credentialed whistleblowers described association-level evidence of harm to minors in VR — not as independent confirmation of every claim made in the testimony.
