Former Meta engineering director whose internal survey measured how often teens faced unwanted sexual advances on Instagram — and who says the company didn't act on it.

Arturo Béjar spent years as an engineering director at Meta working on user well-being before becoming one of the company's most detailed internal critics. He designed a survey of teen Instagram users that found roughly a quarter had received unwanted sexual advances on the platform in the prior week, and says he raised the findings internally without seeing the company act on them. He testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in November 2023, arguing Meta had the data it needed to protect teens and did not use it.
