Negative Effects Of Screen Time On Children: Expert Tips To Break Gadget Addiction

Jan 2020 🇺🇸 🇮🇳 ParentCircle

In this Q&A interview, ParentCircle's Meghna Singhal talks with Victoria Dunckley about the behavior and mood patterns she associates with heavy screen use in children, and about the four-week screen-fast approach from her book Reset Your Child's Brain. Dunckley repeats her description of screens putting some children into what she calls a 'wired and tired' state, driven by stress-response activation and blue light's effect on melatonin, and again compares technology-industry marketing tactics to the tobacco industry's historical playbook. She tells the outlet's largely South Asian parent readership that reducing total screen time matters more than policing which apps or programs a child uses, and that partial limits are, in her clinical opinion, less effective than a full temporary break. TechKids Foundation includes this piece as a documented example of Dunckley's framework reaching an international parenting audience outside the United States.
